Lot Essay

The present drawing once formed part of the celebrated Beauchamp album, which contained more than 160 drawings of mythological and religious subjects by Giandomenico, and which may have been originally assembled by his uncle Francesco Guardi. The album is particularly known for its series of delightful drawings of angels and amorini, which do not seem to have been studies for any particular commission, but rather a series of lighthearted variations on a single theme.
