Lot Essay

Long attributed to Antonio Molinari due to the dramatic torsion of the figures arranged in a graceful composition, the present painting was first recognized as the work of the younger Venetian artist Girolamo Brusaferro by Visnja Bralić in 2004 (op. cit.). The attribution has subsequently been endorsed by Giorgio Fossaluzza in an unpublished paper given at a 2005 conference on Molinari and Venetian art held at the Museum Kunstpalast, Düsseldorf (see A. Craievich, op. cit., p. 294).
