Lot Essay

Giuseppe Magni studied in Florence at the Academia di Belle Arti. Like his contemporaries Giovanni Torriglia and Eugenio Zampighi, Magni painted genre and peasant scenes from around the countryside. The present work centres around the happiness of a small child. The jovial scene takes place in a well-lit room, where translucent bubbles lift over the child's head and add to the overall joyousness of the scene.
