Booth, 1812-[1822]. 2 volumes, 4° (350 x 255mm). 96 hand-coloured engraved plates. Text printed on rectos only. (Some light offsetting and light browning, occasionally heavy spotting, a little thumb-soiling, without the title to vol. II but with a duplicate of the title to vol. I bound in its place, also lacking the plate list in both vols. called for by Tooley.) Contemporary crimson straight-grained morocco, covers with wide gilt dentelle border between two blind-rolls, gilt spine with raised bands, directly-lettered in two compartments, the remaining four compartments with repeated floral ornament, gilt edges (extremities rubbed, lower cover of vol. II scuffed at one corner). Provenance: Sir Robert Johnson Eden; Thos. Dowdeswell, Pull Court, Worcestershire (bookplates). WELL-BOUND, LARGE-PAPER COPY of this ambitious work which was printed by W. Clowes and published in 16 parts, each with 6 plates. Between one and three uniforms of the British and Continental armies are represented on each plate, Ogilby noting that 28 of the plates are of the British Army, and another 6 of foreign troops in the pay of Great Britain.
