Lot Essay

Laurence Graff is one of the most recognized and revered names in the modern jewelry world. Mr. Graff began his career as a bench jeweler in London doing repairs and making small pieces of jewelry. His first successes began when he traveled throughout the United Kingdom and abroad to sell his creations He founded his first retail shop under his own name in 1962 and by the early 1970s, he established Graff Diamond Limited which eventually became the single name ‘Graff’ that is renowned today throughout the world.

Graff is in a unique position by being involved in all stages of the production process from the diamond mines to the retail salon. The Graff master jewelers, based at the company headquarters in London, draw upon generations of training to create the extraordinary fine settings and intricate designs which are synonymous with the firm’s brand.

Laurence Graff is considered a world leader in the jewelry trade, one of the most significant forces in retail, and a market maker in the auction world. Not since Harry Winston has an individual handled more of the most famous diamonds in the world.
