Il représente un soldat debout, son bras droit le long du corps, son bras gauche relevé tenait à l'origine un élément. Il est vêtu d'une armure et d'un long vêtement. Il est chaussé de bottes et porte un casque qui lui couvre la nuque. Ses yeux sont exorbités lui donnant un air effrayant. Il porte une longue barbe ; restaurations.

Lot Essay

This rare large figure is similar to one in the Tenri Sankokan Museum, Japan, illustrated by W. Watson, Tang and Liao Ceramics, New York, 1984, p. 211, no. 231, where the figure is described as Central Asian. Another similar large figure in the Shanghai Museum is illustrated by J. Fontein and R. Hempel, China, Korea, Japan, Berlin, 1968, pl. 128. See a comparable figure coming from the same Belgian collection, Christie's Paris, 13 June 2018, lot 161.

The dating is consistent with the Oxford Authentification thermoluminescence test no. 466d28.
