Lot Essay
In 1921, while conducting a class in her Sniffen Court studio, Harriet Whitney Frishmuth conceived The Vine as a small statuette using René Wilde as her model. Two years later, using Desha Deltiel as a model to finish the work, Frishmuth decided to enlarge the figure and include it in a major exhibition of sculpture organized by the National Sculpture Society.
