Heavily influenced by the works of Edouard Manet and Edgar Degas, Henri Brisport focused his attention upon the interior world of Parisian society. The present work, however, is particularly interesting as it is one of the few scenes representing the immediacy of figures bustling in the streets of Paris. Brisport exhibited many works at the Salon until 1927, receiving a medal in 1885 and a further medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889.
