Mélanie Rouat (1878-1955) opened an inn in Riec-sur-Belon, near Pont-Aven, where local painters and, later, Parisian tourists enjoyed her famous hospitality and excellent cuisine. She often received works from the artists she housed and fed as payment in kind and built up, over the years, an astonishing collection of works by artists such as Gauguin, Sérusier, Bernard, Delavallée and Kisling to decorate the walls of her hostel.
