The present miniature derives from a large-scale oil on canvas portrait by Lawrence of George IV seated on an upholstered chair, dated 1822, which is now in the Wallace Collection, London (inv. no. P559). Another oval version of the miniature, signed and dated December 1828, was sold Christie's, South Kensington, 13 December 2007, lot 1560, from the collection of Torben Holck Colding. Another version, dated 1830, is in the collection of the Duke of Northumberland, Alnwick Castle.
