Lot Essay

This painter trained in the tradition of the Barbizon School by two of the most well-established landscape painters of the day, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot and Charles-Francois Daubigny. A successful artist during his own time, Delpy showed at the Salon from 1869 to his death. He mainly painted river scenes, which were executed on the banks of L'Oise river, but works exist of Barbizon and Parisian scenes also. His son Jacques-Henry followed in his father's footsteps, replicating his style almost identically. He showed his works at the Salon des Artistes Français.
