The present work relates to Moonlit night, the oil painting Levitan completed in 1897, now held in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow (see G. Burova (et al.), Tovarishchestvo peredvizhnykh khudozhestvennykh vystavok [The Society of Travelling Exhibitions], vol. I, Moscow, 1952, p. 214).
