Lot Essay

As most of the other painters of Tervuren, Verheyden exhibited for the first time in 1863, at the Brussels Salon. Having studied at the Brussels Academy, he completed his skill in "open air" painting in Antwerp's Campine area. It is only in 1872 that he moved to the village of Hoeilaart from where he often left to paint in the Forest of Soignes and particularly to Tervuren. In Tervuren he was influenced by Hippolyte Boulenger.
