Lot Essay

Jack Pierson's Self Portraits were assembled in the eponymous book published in 2003. Fifteen photographs show the various stages of life, from the adolescence to the adulthood. The male figures all differ and are anonymous, none of them representing the artist. Through this deceptive game, the artist invites us to explore his identity but also our own plural identity. The sensuality of the models also evokes how desire and sexuality endure and change with the years. Jack Pierson's Self Portraits were assembled in the eponymous book published in 2003.
