Lot Essay

The attribution was first proposed by Fred Meijer of the RKD, on the basis of photographs, when the picture appeared on the art market in New York in 1994 with a false De Heem signature (since removed). He has now examined the picture in the original and we are grateful to him for re-confirming the attribution. He considers it an early work by the artist.
