Lot Essay

Abels was a student of Jan van Ravenzwaay. After travelling in Germany, he returned to Holland to marry the daughter of Pieter Gerardus van Os. He was particularly adept and well known for his moonlit scenes, using a palette that was very close to life. His works are represented in museums in Amsterdam, The Hague and Liège.
