The appearance of some signed works on the art market in recent years has helped to more clearly ascertain the style of Jacopo Fabris, whose paintings are often misattributed to Francesco Tironi or Antonio Joli. This veduta possesses the distinctive buildings, elegantly compressed to give them a delicate, vertical appearance, that are characteristic of Fabris' work. The composition may have been adapted from one a print by Giovanni Battista Piranesi, The Capitoline Hill with the steps to S. Maria in Aracoeli.
