Lot Essay

The View of Doorn was etched by Hendrik Spilman (1721-1784) and used in Het verheerlykt Nederland of kabinet van hedendaagsche gezigten van steden, dorpen, sloten..., VIII, published by Isaac Tirion (1705-1765) in Amsterdam, 1773 by Isaac Tirion (1705-1765). With a total of nine volumes, illustrated with 904 etchings by Spilman, this work is generally considered the most important topographical Dutch book from the 18th Century.
