Bos met Vijver en Zwanen (Verbeek 31)

drypoint, 1897, on cream wove paper, signed in pencil, with wide margins, with inscription De Mantelingen te Domburg (2), a 3 cm skinned horizontal stroke with related stain at the lower right of the image, an indented horizontal line along the image in the lower margin, partly broken through and just affecting the signature, few abrasions in the reverse upper margin, laid down with papertape at the reverse upper corners, very few minor defects, generally in good condition

Lot Essay

The present lot was originally part of the extensive collection of Toorop prints collected by Van Moorsel, part of which was sold in these Rooms, 23 May 1990, lots 773-798. According to the heirs of Van Moorsel the indented line in the lower margin of the print was caused when Toorop mounted and signed this impression. According to Van Moorsel the site depicted represents 'De Mantelingen', near Domburg, Zeeland
