Theatrum machinarum universale, of Groot algemeen moelen-boek. Amsterdam: W. Holtrop and N.T. Gravius, [no date]. 2 volumes bound in one, 2° (559 x 355mm). Half-title. Titles printed in red and black, engraved title-vignettes by and after J. Wandelaar. Engraved dedication leaf with vignette by Jan Schenk after A. van der Laan, 63 double-page engraved plates by Schenk, one folding, woodcut head- and tailpieces and initial. (Occasional light spotting, plate I/XIII with small hole, plates I/XXXVII-XXXVIII with small tears on folds.) Late 19th-century half maroon roan gilt by Bickers & Son, the spine elaborately gilt in compartments with floral and foliate tools, gilt morocco lettering-piece in one, gilt edges (some rubbing and scuffing, text leaves guarded in).
'LAATSE EN BESTE DRUK' (I,*1R) OF THIS FINELY-ILLUSTRATED WORK ON WINDMILLS by van Zyl, a millwright from Lexmond. The present copy is from the collection of F.H. Shelton, the author of More light on the old mill at Newport (Newport, R.I.: 1917). Cf. Brunet V, col.1082 (1734 edition); Graesse VII, p.258 (1734 edition).
