Lot Essay

Compare with the larger version of identical subject matter in Museum Boymans van Beuningen, Rotterdam (oil on canvas, 78 x 130 cm., Painted circa 1867. See: Tiny de Liefde-van Brakel, Wind en Wilgen: Jan Willem van Borselen 1825-1892, The Hague, 2002, p. 59, fig. 67.). It has been suggested that the present lot is a later version of the painting in the Boymans Museum, commissioned by an admirer of the before mentioned version.

We wish to thank Mrs Tiny de Liefde-van Brakel for her help in cataloguing this lot.
