Ce dessin est une étude préparatoire pour la figure du Christ du tableau d'autel de Corot, encore in situ, dans l'église Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet à Paris, l'unique commande officielle de l'artiste, datée 1845 (M. Pantazzi dans Corot, 1796-1997, cat. exp., Paris, Galeries nationales du Grand Palais, et al., 1996- 1997, no. 89, ill.). Un dessin de la même collection, préparatoire pour la figure de la partie inférieure droite du tableau, est passé en vente dans cette salle le 21 mars 2018, lot 79.
This drawing is a preparatory study for the figure of Christ in an altarpiece by Corot. Still in the church of Saint- Nicolas-du-Chardonnet, Paris, it was the only public commission the artist received (M. Pantazzi in Corot, 1796-1997, exhib. cat., Paris, Galeries nationales du Grand Palais, et al., 1996-1997, no. 89, ill.). A drawing from the same collection depicting a figure from the lower right side of the painting was sold at Christies, Paris, 21 March 2018, lot 79.
