Lot Essay

This drawing, formerly attributed to Charles Parrocel, is related to The Battle of Poltava painted in 1717 for Tsar Peter the Great and now in the Pushkin Museum, Moscow, Jean-Marc Nattier, exhib. cat., Versailles, 1999, no. 2. A drawing of the Tsar, close in handling to the present lot, is in the Marcel Puech Collection, Avignon, Versailles, op. cit., no. 3.
