Both brothers enjoyed an intimate friendship with Gerrit Rietveld, and with other members of the De Stijl and Nieuwe Beelding groups. The geometric abstraction and colour harmonies explicit in these lots are consistent with ideals of the Dutch Avant Garde of the 1920s.
