III, marginal soiling and light staining at beginning and end), 18th-century sheep, red morocco lettering-piece (rubbed and scuffed). Provenance: R.S. (initials at foot of title).

FIRST EDITION of the first English book on dogs, which also includes information on wolves and foxes. The work was originally written as a contribution to Gesner's Historiae animalium but was not included in the larger work due to Gesner's death in 1565. Schwerdt I, p. 281; STC 346.
