Lot Essay

Juliane Schmieglitz-Otten (Miniaturen der Revolutionszeit 1789-1799 aus der Sammlung Tansey, Munich, 2005, p. 200) points out that Heinsius worked from the 1790s until his death in Orleans. For two other signed miniatures of ladies by Heinsius, see M. Friesen (ed.), Französische Miniaturen 1770-1880, Darmstadt, 2001, figs. 160-161, p. 409.
