Lot Essay
Recognized as a work by artist Johannes Bard for its striking colors, stylized four-heart format and painstakingly precise penmanship, the present lot is an excellent example of one of Bard’s fraktur compilations. Bard was a lay leader in the Methodist Church and worked in Adams and York Counties in Pennsylvania and Frederick County, Maryland. For similar examples see Christie's, New York, 21 January 2011, lot 183 and Russel D. and Corrine P.
