Lot Essay

Born in The Hague, Prins studied medicine before becoming a self-taught artist. In 1785, he belonged to 'Pictura', the confraternity of artists in The Hague. Known for his works on paper, Prins was active in Paris, Leiden, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht, where in 1806 he drowned in a canal.
