Lot Essay

John Chessell Buckler specialised in architectural painting subjects, producing picturesque views of country houses, churches and ruins. Born in 1793, the son of an architect and antiquarian draughtsman, he went on to exhibit at the Royal Academy from 1810-1844 and was a member of both the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Watercolour Society.
