Lot Essay

John Fulleylove worked as a clerk for a firm of architects before becoming a watercolourist, which explains, to some extent, his preference for architectural views. He also painted similar views of Oxford colleges (c.1887-1889). For an example see his view of Oriel College, Oxford (Christie's, London, 19 May 1984, lot 20).
