Lot Essay

Fulleylove travelled widely in Europe and the Near East, illustrating books on the Holy Land, Greece, and elsewhere. In Finnemore's book The Holy Land he talks of a gushing spring called 'Mary's Well' where the community would gather to collect the household supply of water and to gossip and socialise.

Various exhibitions of his works were held at the Fine Art Society, including Greek Views in 1896 and Views of the Holy Land in 1902 to which this picture may relate.
