John Lennon
An autograph letter written on two postcards, signed, to political activist Huey Newton, [n.d but circa 1972-3], addressed to Dear Comrade Huey thanking him for a letter and telling him about their work since The Beatles ... Yoko and I are in the process of just finishing a completely 'political' album... it includes such things as 'Attica State', 'Angela' (Davies) etc etc [Some Time In New York City, 1972] adding that other works they have done are more 'avant garde' and explaining.. we feel that all our music has message ie. messages is the music (Yoko), all Power to the people, love from John and Yoko the card with John and Yoko's printed message Happy Xmas (War Is Over)... and their facsimile signatures on verso below a black and white photograph of the Statue of Liberty; the second postcard containing a post-script enclosing a few single records made since Beatles days [not present] from Give Peace A Chance and up to Power To The People, Lennon observes 'Imagine' was a big hit in places like South Africa, Sth. America etc. obviously the MAN doesn't listen to (sic) hard to the lyrics - if the song sounds* 'sweet'! ie. if I scream it - they ban it! (which they did to the 1st Album - working class hero etc.) love again J + Y, the card with John and Yoko's adaptation of an allegorical painting of Pan etc. in black and white on verso, the photograph inscribed in Lennon's hand with an arrow pointing to the musical notes coming from Pan's pipe and the message power to the people!
