Lot Essay

Hayward visited Plymouth in 1807 and 1811. The artist was particularly associated with Joshua Cristall. He worked with him on a panorama of Constantinople for the Great Room, Spring Gardens, where Girtin's Eidometropolis was shown in 1802. Hayward met Girtin on the sketching expedition to North Wales made by Girtin and Beaumont in July 1800.
