He painted, drew, illustrated and etched nudes, figures, portraits, landscapes, city views, still lifes and more, like i.e. lot 320 depicting Salomé. He got a royal grant, won the Saint Lucas prize in 1939 and the silver medal of the city of Paris in 1955. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae, and their chairman in 1946-1948 and 1963, and a member of Saint Lucas in Amsterdam. He tought at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam and even in the last years of his life he teached students at home. During his life he never really wanted to show his work at exposition.
