Lot Essay

Drawings of figures and animals are rare in Knip’s oeuvre, which mainly consists of landscape drawings. The present sheet can be compared to Studies of birds, previously in the I.Q. van Regteren Altena Collection (Christie’s, Amsterdam, 13 May 2015, lot 51), and to a sheet with studies of Italian peasants in the Rijksmuseum (inv. RP-T-1938-24).
