Lot Essay

Although Karel Frans Philippeau was born in Amsterdam and died in Princenhage, he spent a great part of his life in Rome, Italy. It was here that he found the inspiration for an important part of his oeuvre, scenes from the Italian country life of which the present lots are good examples.
