Fujita's striking use of colour and contrasting metallic inclusions relate to objects that form part of the tea ceremony, yet the abstract pattern and simple form is unmistakably modern. He first started working independently with glass in 1949 and has since had numerous exhibitions including a solo exhibition in 1979 in The Museum of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen. The most well-known of Kyohei Fujita's works are the kazaribako [ornamented casket] series, but it took him twenty years or so before he could produce such works. According to Atsushi Takeda, Curator in Chief of the Yokohama Museum of Art "it would be no exaggeration to say they represent the entirety of his true artistic nature, rather than just being a representative style." 1 1.Exhibition catalogue, Fujita Kyohei no sekai ten, [The World of Kyohei Fujita], (Tokyo, 1991), p.22 THE PROPERTY OF A LADY
