The work of Kyohei Fujita bridges contemporary craft and the Japanese decorative art tradition. Fujita's striking use of colour and contrasting metallic inclusions relate to objects that form part of the tea ceremony, yet the abstract pattern and simple form is unmistakably modern. He first started working independently with glass in 1949 and has since had numerous exhibitions including a solo exhibition in 1979 in The Museum of Decorative Arts in Copenhagen. The most well-known of Kyohei Fujita's works are the kazaribako [ornamented casket] series, but it took him twenty years or so before he could produce such works.
