Lot Essay

From 1892 Lambertus Zijl (1866-1947) cooperated with architect H.P. Berlage (1856-1934) in designing architectural sculptures. One of his assignments enhanced the sculptures for Berlage's Koopmansbeurs (Beurs van Berlage) built in 1899-1900.
The sculptor A.M. Stoltz worked from 1907 at 't Binnenhuis of H.P. Berlage where he was known for the execution of sculptural details on furniture designs by Jac. van den Bosch. He taught Hildo Krop (1884-1970) woodcarving and executed many of his works.
