FIRST EDITION. PRESENTATION COPY, EACH VOLUME INSCRIBED BY LANGFORD on the flyleaves: "Ella T. Wright With Compliments of Author N.P. Langford of St. Paul. Apr. 12th 1890." "Much and valuable frontier history is to be found in this work, in which the author presents with clear view the strange scenes and singular characters of that strongly colored period" (Cowan). Adams calls the work "One of the standard works on the Montana vigilantes and the Plummer gang of road agents." Langford describes these times with great literary charm. He was a banker and miner who was a member of the executive committee of the potent Montana Vigilantes and was instrumental in the development of Yellowstone National Park.
