Lot Essay

The present picture is one of only two dated still lifes by the artist; the other, signed and dated 1646, is in the collection of Van Aerde, Leerdam (E. Gemar-Koeltzsch, op.cit., p.272, no.86/2). These two pictures are likely to be early works; their compositions reveal the influence of Jan Davidsz. de Heem.
Little is known about the artist, his sure output consists of twenty pictures.
