FIRST EDITION of one of the most important architectural books of the 20th century. Composed of articles originally appearing in L'Espirit Nouveau, Le Corbusier's work outlines his visions of modern architecture and stresses the importance of mass production and standardized designs. While he writes that "La maison est une machine à habiter," Le Corbusier was above all an artist who emphasized the artistic easthetic of architecture. The book's publication served to mark "... a milestone in the development of the modern movement and Le Corbusier's influence has probably been greater than that of any other writer on architecture in this century" (PMM 413).
