Lot Essay

Based on a satirical sketch by Potemkin and produced by Maria Kuznetsova, Moskva is listed as having been performed at the Paris Opera, but this has not been confirmed by the theatre's museum. A. Levinson wrote that Bakst was 'consumed by an appetite for Russian memories'. For other designs for the show see Charles Spencer, Leon Bakst, (London, 1973), nos.146-149.
