Lot Essay

There has been racing at York since the 16th Century. The sport moved to the Knavesmire course in 1731 and dominated the racing scene in the North of England throughout the 18th Century.

In the present view the large building on the right is Terry's Chocolate Factory, and the building on the left is the number board which is still in operation today.
