We are grateful to Dr. Francesca Baldassare for the attribution, given on the basis of a black and white photograph. Another version is in a private collection, Florence. She points out that Mehus is known to have painted the same subject for the ceiling of the church of SS. Annunziata in Florence but no related drawings or sketches for the project are known to exist.
