Engraved hand-colored map of New England, image 492 x 575 mm. Inset town view of New York entitled "Neu Jorck sive Neu Amsterdam", elaborate figural cartouche depicting natives presenting a tribute to a seated English monarch [?George II] (minor worming to upper end of fold). Matted and framed (not examined out of frame).
Fourth state with the Lotter imprint replacing Seutter’s name of the Jansson/Visscher Map New England series first published by Visscher ca 1662. The Seutter/Lotter map is the first “in the series to show by means of printed lines the boundaries of Massachusetts, New England, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania" (Tooley p. 291). The first three states are with the Seutter imprint. See also lots 132 and 135. Tooley p. 291-292.
