Marold was a Czech painter and illustrator. He first studied at the Prague Academy (1881-2) and then moved to Munich where he embarked on a career as an illustrator, contributing drawings to German and Czech periodicals. In 1889 Marold won a grant enabling him to study in Paris. He illustrated French publications such as Le Monde and L'Illustration and in 1892 he won a gold medal at the Munich Weltaustellung for his work as an illustrator.
