Lot Essay

Born at Göritz, Austria, of French parents, Luigi Loir debuted at the Salon de Paris in 1865 with Paysage á Villiers-sur-Seine and went on to make his reputation painting views of Paris. Gaining several medals for art he was decorated with the Legion d'Honneur in 1898 and many of his works now hang in museums and noted galleries.
