Lot Essay

Luis Jimenez y Arada, brother of the history and genre painter José Jimenez y Aranda, was a student under E. Cano at the Academy of Fine Arts in Seville. After living in Rome and Paris, Luis settled in Pontoise in 1876. Jimenez was awarded a medal at the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris, another in Munich in 1890 and an honorable mention in Berlin in 1891.
