MALON DE BERCY, Nicolas Charles (1734-1790) -- François-Paul BARLETTI DE SAINT PAUL. [Catalogue des Livres de la Bibliothèque de Monsieur de Bercy.] [Bercy: Barletti de Saint-Paul, February 1784].

2o (360 x 237 mm). Manuscript on paper, mainly on rectos only. (Missing the first three leaves including title-page.) Contemporary mottled calf, title lettered in gold on front cover, spine gilt (small restoration to spine).

THE ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT CATALOGUE OF MALON DE BERCY'S COUNTRY HOUSE LIBRARY. The name of its calligrapher is revealed on page 357 in the chapter "Catalogue de Bibliothèques" which also gives the correct title of the present work. The last entries go as far as 1788 and include recent purchases of works by Calonne, Necker, and other French economists. The intended index which was to cover the last 8 leaves was never executed. The fine library was eventually sold in 1860 just before the manor house was torn down due to town planning in Paris and its outskirts. Barletti de Saint Paul had not only put Malon de Bercy's library into order but had also worked on the magnificent collection owned by the marquis de Paulmy, which was subsequently bought by the comte d'Artois and which forms today the nucleus of the Bibliothèque de l'Arsenal in Paris. Very rare, no copy in the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
