Lot Essay

Puericulture II, one of Man Ray's first dream objects was realized in 1920 after he had dreamt about a plant growing from the earth that appeared to be a child's hand. This cast is one from a small edition produced by Marcel Zerbib in Paris in 1964; the unique, original sculpture is in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago.
